When I read The Broken Vows, I was sobbing about 30% into the book. So needless to say, I was very nervous about when the angst was going to hit me. I was feeling good. I thought, "Maybe this will be the first Catharina Maura book that won't make me cry." Then I got about 83% in and she got me again. LOL.

I really loved this book. Lex's story was very highly anticipated since his appearances in his brother's books and Professor Astor (which I highly recommend before reading this one). He was the one making fun of his brothers for being so "whipped" and that he would never be so possessive over his wife because he had already accepted that he would be in an arranged marriage. HA. So yes, the Windsor brother that made fun of all the brothers BECAME the MOST possessive of all of them. It was so satisfying to see.

The most touching and surprising part of the story was seeing all the support that Raya received from The Windsors. Throughout the ups and downs of her love story with Lex, the Windsors were fiercely defensive of her. That type of love was possibly the most touching of all.

I'm going to be devastated to see this series end but I'm also so excited for Sierra and Xavier's book. The start of what we got in this book was not enough.

I loved Lex and rayas story and how Lex showed his love
The miscommunication between them was frustrating, but considering Lex's history and trust issues, it made sense. Although his reaction when he thought Raya betrayed him was pretty fucked up.
Raya’s dad was an absolute prick and I particularly enjoyed how the family united and planned revenge against all who wronged Raya. You don’t want to mess with the Windsor wives and their family

I need Sierra and Xavier’s story like right now thank you!!!

You outdid yourself again Catharina..

IM UTTERLY AND MADLY IN LOVE WITH LEXINGTON. I didn’t see it coming, but you win Cat. I love him and I loved this story. I have loved and followed Catharinas work for the longest time, I got to meet her last year at RARE and it was all just surreal. I’ve been holding out to reading this story because I really am a mood reader and this style of story I had to be a particular headspace and it did not disappoint. I fear to say that Lex may have stolen first place from my darling Ares.. I feel this strongly about him. Raya was incredible, all of Catharinas FMC are my Roman Empire. They are strong, resilient and absolute QUEENS in their own right and I always just adore their bonds as friends, sisters and family. This whole series will hit hard when it ends, it will be a collection I will need in paper back as I usually am a kindle reader but I just need these in my hands to love and keep forever.

Catharina really knows how to write the most extraordinary type of love.

Raya deserves better.

This is the first book I’ve read from this series - I got sucked in by a kindle ad! While overall it was good and I enjoyed it (character development was good, spice was great!), I do have some notes.

I noticed quite a few grammatical errors. (‘the’ instead of ‘to’ ‘he’ instead of ‘she’, etc.) These types of obvious errors always kind of throw me out of the book a little. There were also a few different things throughout the book that were hinted at, but then never discussed - such as a few hints that a coworker knew what was going on, but then we never had a discussion with her and the FMC - why make those hints for nothing to come of it? I was also expecting a scene with Raya and Adam in the library after it was obvious Raya and Lex hooked up but we didn’t get that either! How could there not be a discussion between her and her best friend when it was obvious she was hooking up with a ‘married man’. There were also just some choppy transitions between chapters. We would be sort of in the middle of a scene and then the next chapter is a totally new topic and it takes me a bit to realize that weeks have passed and instead of the house we are now in the car, etc.

Overall I definitely enjoyed the book, but if these things as far as writing were improved I would definitely be more inclined to pick up another book by this author! As it stands i’m undecided if I would pick up another in this series.
