I really liked this prequel! I feel like more energy and thought went into this novella than many of the others, and it shows. It was fun seeing how Tempe got into forensic anthropology, through her first few cases that sparked her passion, even before she had her PhD.

Surprise! This was included in my hardcover copy of A Conspiracy of Bones.

Nice short read - funny to read about 80s technology.

Oh, this short story! Loved seeing Tempe's origins as a forensic anthropology, but it was bookended by the present, with a mystery person in the hospital, dying. and that was just so sad!

I was first introduced to Temperance Brennan in an anthology called Matchup where the author worked with another author for a short story. I decided I liked the ever sarcastic Temperance so why not begin at the beginning. This story also ends with information about helping to end the business of puppy mills. Hurray for the author on that issue! If you like crime solving and forensics mixed with some sarcasm, this is a series for you.I know I will read more!
