Unexpectedly good. All others classics that I have read from around this time were a bore to read and just not interesting to me. However, this is a really good novel and I understand how it became a classic. My first Charles Dickens book, I am excited to read more from him. His writing style is timeless and, specifically for this book, I was enveloped in the plotline.
Charles Darnay is a French exile in London, and Sydney Carter is an English lawyer. The lives of these two become entwined through their love of Lucie Manette, daughter of a French political prisoner. Set in London and Paris before and after the French Revolution of 1789, this Dickens classic was originally published in 1859. In this audiobook, Chris Tester is exactly the voice you would expect to hear narrating the classic novel. I recommend audiobook lovers to check out this version of A Tale of Two Cities!

I first read this book for school a few years ago. Except I didn't actually read it. I listened to the free audiobook on Librivox, and instead of paying attention to the story, I spent the hours trying to figure out how to solve a mini Rubik's cube. All that to say it wasn't among the best of circumstances, and I really hated it. Well, I always kind of intended to go back to it, so after reading Great Expectations and Oliver Twist, and LOVING them, I knew it was time to go back and ACTUALLY read it. This time around, I really liked it. I will still admit that the beginning was a little confusing and slow. So far, I've found this book to be the least like a Charles Dickens book than any of the other Charles Dickens books I've read. Which could be a good or bad thing depending on the person:)
I still had to give this book five stars though. It's the ending. Everybody who has read this book knows exactly what I mean. The ending is exquisite in every way. So please, I beg you, do NOT quit this book halfway through. Don't. Just push through and make it to the end, and then you can make your judgment. Don't you dare say anything before.

The classic problems that come from reading a book from centuries ago: old English and old views on women. Both made it a tough read at times, but the plot was captivating and the writing was, at times (when I could understand), genius. Would recommend finishing the book in Versailles, it adds something to be in the heart of the history!
This was the shortest and yet most rambling and disorganized of all of the Dickens that I have read. I had to google the storyline to make sure I knew what was going on. These long rambling sections and then action and then more ramble. I’m not new to Dickens (Great Expectation, David Copperfield, done and Bleak House on the horizon).

Started it because of the French Revolution, stayed for Sydney Carton.
I couldn't care LESS about Lorry, Dr Manette, Lucie, and Charles.

It was the National Razor which shaved close: who kissed La Guillotine looked through the little window and sneezed into the sack.
I dedicate this review to the four Jacques, a former Jacque(s), and Madame Defarge. Vive la République!!!

Happy Bastille Day - I read this so long ago but I knew I really loved it.
This is a historical fiction that made me love all historical fictions; an epic story about a revolution, sacrifice, and revenge.
Liberty, Equality, Fraternity!!!
