In this sequel to Pride and Prejudice, after the marriage of Lizzy and Darcy it is the time for Georgiana Darcy to come out into society and throughout the following year we read of her development and happenings.
A lovely book.

It probably isn't fair for me to ever review a revisiting of Pride and Prejudice. Their Darcy's are never my Darcy's. But, stupid me, I try to find that brilliance that Jane created.
Almost all modern sequels seem to do the same thing. They try too hard. Any reference Jane ever made is magnified. The language never feels genuine. It always reads like someone trying to sound uppity, which is exactly the case. The other thing they nearly all do is create a romance between Miss Darcy and the Colonel. Apparently the closest thing to THE Mr. Darcy is too irresistible. The problem is we know he's a bit of a fortune hunter as that is the only thing that prevented his romancing Elizabeth. Plus he is more than twice the age of Georgiana. Realistically we know none of those things really mattered back then. A marriage to an older cousin was the dream. But with a modern audience...your reader spends an awful lot of time reminding themselves it's not a big deal, affectionately referring to your fiance as cousin isn't creepy...it just puts a barrier between the reader and the story that no author wants. I'm willing to ignore those things for the classics, modern knock offs not so much.
Yet I still gave the book three stars. It started to win me over. Georgiana was unbearable in the beginning, but she started to change. Or maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic and was delighted to have even a false glimpse of the married Mr. and Mrs. Darcy.

This is the second novel that I have read in the Pride and Prejudice universe. I honestly don't know why, because I didn't love the novel itself.

Anyways, this novel was pretty good. I thought that it was an interesting portrayal of the characters after the events of Pride and Prejudice. We also get to see the perspective of Georgina, who wasn't that present in the original novel.

The one startling difference that I noticed between this novel and Austen's was that this novel was more plot driven while Pride and Prejudice was character driven. The focus here is the events that are happening in Georgina's life, as well as the events that are happening in the Darcys and Bingleys. That makes this novel a little bit easier to read than Pride and Prejudice.

Because I don't really remember much of Pride and Prejudice, or that I didn't really enjoy it, I can't comment on how this novel compares to it. Overall, I thought this novel to be okay. I didn't find it bad, but I also didn't find it amazing.

A very cute P&P continuation story. It wasn't terribly unique but it was well-written and very enjoyable. Despite the modern disgust about first cousins marrying each other, I was very pleased that Georgianna finds someone she loves and who loves her in return. Overall, enjoyable and I would recommend it to those who love P&P continuation stories.
