These are strange stories, and although the weirdness wore on me after a while in that some seemed just weird for the sake of weird, I enjoyed them.

REALLY good — stories that stick with you for days after — very dark humor and super eerie

Definitely one of my favourite short story collections thus far, Cook has compiled a series of original stories that are each as interesting and enjoyable to read at face value as they are to examine further so we can draw parallels to our own world.
Some of my favourites include a story about a community who simply accept the strange old man who stalks their homes and snatches newborn babies; a story about a centre that prepares widows for remarriage; a story about a group of abandoned young boys competing to survive in a forest; a story about a mother whose devotion is questioned when it becomes clear her own survival is under threat, and a story about a group of office workers trying to flee from a monster thirsty for blood.
Lots of great themes and ideas are explored, but paramount amongst them is the inherent selfish need we all have to survive.

The right amount of fiction with the right amount of depth and meaning.
I recommend this book to anyone looking to pick- up their reading habit. Enjoy!
