Solid showing for this series. Really enjoy the history woven into the mystery. Love a plucky female protagonist.

I like these stories okay--they are a little slow, thus no 4. This one gave me a little less of a historical experience than the past Maisie Dobbs stories.

Just really, really enjoyable mysteries -- enough story, character and emotional weight for me to not want to put these down.

Enjoyed it -- I tend to read these in as few sitting as possible, take a full day if need be. This series deals with the after-effects of war -specifically, the first world war - in a very powerful way.

In this one, Maisie is drawn into the world of art, and into the midst of an artistic family -- which gives her mentor some concern, as these are the sort of people that find you wonderful and amusing for a bit and then find someone new to be delighted by. But the art is real, as is the fight between family loyalties and portraying the truth in art ...

The real villain in the piece is the war, and what men do during war, and living with those memories afterwards.
