I read Come With Me by this author and wasn't a huge fan, but chose to give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised. This story combines the horrors of everyday life (e.g. abuse by a parent, alcoholism, child neglect, and predatory behaviors) with paranormal elements, creating an ominous feel.

This book was scary and was filled with childhood trauma and redemption. There is one scene where a dog gets hurt that I felt was unnecessary though. Thankfully, it was a very short part.
I really liked the narrator. I've listened to him do other books and was glad to see he had done this one.

I still don’t really know how to feel about this book.
I wanted to love it as I really enjoyed Come With Me but this one felt too similar to Stephen King’s IT. There seemed to be too many flashbacks and not enough story in the present. It took me a bit longer than I thought to get through so it fell a bit flat.
