This was a decent thriller. The plot was interesting & it didn’t drag - I definitely felt on the edge of my seat about 100 pages in through the end.
Things I didn’t like: NONE of these characters were likable. God, they were AWFUL! Like grown up ‘Mean Girls’, but worse. & even at the end felt like they did nothing wrong (other than Tanya maybe, but she was still awful). It’s harder to read a book when you can’t connect with a character - even tho I don’t think you’re meant to in this story.
All the different POV’s were confusing - it took a while to remember who was who & even after I figured it out, I still found myself confused at times.
The ending? Is there going to be another book? I feel like there’s not enough left to do much with the story but it just ended so quickly not knowing what happens with Annabelle & Ollie.
I also guessed the big plot twist a little over half way through the book, even tho I wasn’t 100% sure. It kinda ruined the element of surprise for me.
Book wasn’t awful - not my fave thriller, but not the worst.

This book was so infuriating but only because the characters are absolute bitches. Gilbert writes these women so well, that I can picture exactly how they act and even know people like that in real life. The multiple POV adds to the drama and intensity of the book. Highly recommend!!

She Started It is a locked room/stranded type psychological thriller that takes place on a secluded island in the Caribbean during a bachelorette party. This book was all sorts of juicy! 4 friends being reunited with the girl they bullied back in high school, lots of revenge and bloody mayhem. I enjoyed it quite more than I thought I would based on the previous reviews I’ve seen. But at the core of this revenge themed thriller is a very emotional topic and that’s bullying and the effects it can have. I’ll admit, I had tears in my eyes towards the end. I even found myself agreeing with the killer because the horrible things these girls did to Poppy were BRUTAL. So please be aware that while this book is a thriller, it does tackle some very serious topics. I’ll put the trigger warnings in a spoiler below.
If you’re looking for a summer thriller that will have you riveted, then I highly recommend this one! The book is dark, twisted, emotional, and chaotic (in the best of ways). The author even leaves the ending open to the possibility to another book which I am HOPING will happen! I’d love to read more.
