Page after page, I couldn't stop smiling.

This is a wonderful book of confident, BEAUTIFUL women who know who they are and carry it well no matter what their personal fashion sense. A lovely surprise and highly recommended.

I loved this. Really inspirational and encouraging on finding your own style at any age. Encourages people to be happy in your own skin and to not be afraid to be bold.

This is most definitely a fashion book, with plenty of visual inspiration and life advice to boot. Heck, these folks are waaaaaaay more adventurous with their style than I am! I have no idea what patterns ‘suit’ me (resonate, yes, on an energetic level) and am working to do the same for colours.

The colours and cuts these folks use are vibrant yet classic, with airs (only word that comes to mind) of fun sophistication. Now I want to read the first book and maybe watch the documentary.

My only critique would be to include folks of more ethnically diverse background- by the photos/stories it seems the author favoured the Jewish community due to their heritage. A lot of light skinned, not to body-diverse folks here.

If anyone has ideas for lookbooks like this, please share!

I looove these photos, but these essays perhaps dulled the shine of these amazing women. They aren't writers, so...I think interviews might have been clearer.

FYI this is almost completely wordless. There are some paragraphs about the women but I would have loved to hear more from them and about the specific outfits photographed. It really makes projects like The Sartorialist look as ageist as they are, but Advanced Style is still mostly a catalogue of white, thin, and wealthy women.

I thought it was pretty strange that for such a diverse city so many of the women profiled were white.
