I adored this leg of Binti's journey. Returning home and discovering parts of herself she didn't know was very bittersweet.

My feelings about Home—the second book in Okorafor's Binti trilogy—are more or less the same as my feelings about Binti. Both books showcase Okorafor as a creative writer, who aptly raises important issues (e.g., the pressure to conform to communal norms; racism against those we don't understand), in a science-fiction setting. At the same time, both books also suffer from the same writing problems—an overly even tone, somewhat two-dimensional characters (Binti's family only exists as people that are upset at her), and a difficulty describing characters' emotions (Okarfor seems to always only describe how people physically experience emotions (e.g., by weeping)). The books read well together—Binti demonstrates Okorafor's ability to reveal by looking outside our world; Home does the same, by looking further inside our own world. Still, I'm not sure there's much else going on in these books that makes them worth reading.

I found this to be even more interesting than the first book. The only thing that was so-so for me was that it started out a bit slow. After that, it begins to do a lot of world-building that was very cool and introduces a plot that outshines the original.
