it's not a 5 star only because it is not self consistant, but the atmosphere the short story creates is so immersive and involving that it is impossible to put down until you finish it!

I thought Binti was fantastic and when I discovered there was a follow-up, I was expecting something far more exciting. It's still a novella but it felt long as not a whole lot happens for 70% of the book. The first one did such a great job of world building while keeping me guessing what would happen next. In contrast, at no point was I surprised by anything that happens in this book.
All that being said, it's still a well-written book it just feels more like filler than being able to stand on its own.

Again mesmerising. But also haunting to see how a trauma can influence after the event. It is a journey to unknown world, but also into unknown culture and fear. The book wonderfully deletes into what trauma can do to people and how it can effect later and unexpectedly.
One of the parts I loved about this book is her interaction with Third Fish, her space ship. Third Fish too has seen the horror, but continued to do what she loves - fly in space.

Binti is going home with Okwu haar Meduse friend.. Again on Third Fish the space ship that was her travel she in part 1. She feels she needs to go on her pilgrimage and to learn how to deal with the trauma that has bevallen her in the first book
The the initial happiness over her homecoming quickly turns sour as her family is showing their despair of her disappearance, jealousy of what she has achieved and lack of knowledge or understanding of what she has been through.

An old war is restarted. Again Binti leaves on her very unusual path. She learns more about who she is, what the Meduse part of her is apart from a communication help. She learns what her history is. She learns that what you see is not always what there is. New and old people (re)enter her life.

This book ends in a cliff hanger and as a result I had to pick up part 3 immediately.

*My star rating is dependent on my pleasure alone.

I am always so startled when Okorafor's books end! I think I liked this one even more than the first Binti novel. Can't wait to read the next one.

Rating: 4.5/5 ★

Gods I love the way Binti's character evolves as she goes through these events. Highlighting Binti's PTSD and need for assurance made me feel for her. She wants home to mean comfort and reacceptance, but is told that she is different at a molecular level. That difficulty to not be able to connect to those closest to you is absolutely relatable and speaks to Nnedi Okorafor's ability to deepen the emotions in her story.

Solid sequel, Binti learning more about her family and her home to understand herself and her transformations was intriguing.

I need more Binti. Hopeful for a quick sequel...
