I feel like this book moves too fast for the world it is trying to build. There are a lot of different races, human and alien, and this book only adds more than the first. When it slows down and spends some time with the characters it’s good, but I feel like it rushes plot points just to get to the next thing. While this one had a better start than the first one, it got a little muddled in the middle. I wish both were longer and fleshed out the world more.

Oh this was so much better than the first one. I feel like Binti spend too much time worldbuilding and not enough on what was happening and Binti herself. This books takes care of that and does so much more! Looking for work to the concluding book.

A pretty fascinating look into the results of the events of the previous book and how Binti is coping with her new identity. I really enjoyed reading about her journey back home to learn even more about who she is. Glad I already have a copy of book three so I can see how things wrap up, especially with the cliffhanger ending here.

I loved this trilogy. Good world building incorporating Afro-futurism, sci-fi and African culture. Strong female protagonist

to leave home for a place where you’ll forever be set apart, different…only to come back home after, forever changed, so once again set apart, and different from all you once knew…🥺 Oh, Binti! Once again, SFF proves to be the best genre for exploring themes of identity (and more) - heightening it to new levels other genres can only dream of. Really really enjoying these novellas 👏
