Joe Sacco spent five months in war ravaged Bosnia during 1996 and put together his experiences for a very compelling read. During his time in the former Yugoslavia, it shows how man can be so ugly and unforgiving. His novel touches on many friends he met while in country and tries to show a side of the world that was hidden from most of the general public. It's excellent stuff and well worth the time.

A fascinating look at a very dark period in modern history. There is a good balance of covering the major events and context for the conflict in Bosnia and showing the day to day life of people trying to survive in the enclave of Goražde. It shames me how little I know about these conflicts, but this was a good introduction.

Haunting. Joe Sacco does an incredibly job of detailing the plight of Muslims and the savagery of the Serbs. His cartooning is striking: it's simple, yet it conveys the nuance of human expression and the horrors of war. Throughout I felt glimmers of glee in a sea of absolute despair. That's something only the best cartoonist and storytellers are able to accomplish.

Невозможно читать, невозможно не читать. Жесткая и очень честная журналистская работа и доказательство того, что комикс-журналистика – действенный формат.

Fine enough. That is not an insult. You can tell where his influence is come from. it is indeed a graphic novel of a war conflict, something that has been done before. If that is your genre, than this is probably worth it. If not, then skip this and find something better.
