i LOVE this book. i was very hesitant to start because ive heard mixed reviews and it seems like a dense duology, but i was enTRANCED. i will say that the first chapter was so abysmal, it almost put me into a slump, but once the story really got going after the first third or so, i was hooked. granted, i am extremely partial to asian fantasy and i love a good book with a map, but this was masterful. the MC is enjoyable and her motivations are clear and easy to root for. the romantic subplot is al’s exciting, even if i do hate love triangles. the twist should probably have been predictable, but i somehow didn’t think too much about it, thought it made perfect sense as soon as it happened and only made the love triangle and overall conflict 1000x more enjoyable. i just really loved it. the world building is great but not too dense and the writing is excellent (apart from that first chapter). i did have to get molly to google and tell me who she ends up with so that i knew who to get attached to, but im already happy with how things go! very excited to finish this story and it might be one of my favorites of the year!

This YA fantasy is beautifully written, I enjoyed every second of it!
