Not my favorite. I liked her stories of her patients but feel that the self-help portion was perhaps a bit much.

3.5 stars. It was fine.

I appreciate the walk in her life and the exposure/perspectives it gave me.

This memoir also didn’t make me feel like I was trapped in the corner with THAT person and her humility is appreciated.

I don’t know that I’d say it was worth the wait and I’m starting to think I don’t like memoirs

When I first started this book, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. It’s basically a work memoir. There’s not really an arch. It’s hard to even say there’s character development, not in some classic sense.
Yet it works. Probably in part because the daily life of an er doctor in busy hospitals is likely inherently interesting. It feels a little bit like magical thinking because I’ve never experienced doctors who seem willing to spend extra time with patients and so many stories involved incredible compassion and extra time.

4.5; I liked this book a lot for two reasons: First, I disagreed with her view and perspective in a few places, but she helped me to understand where she is coming from and I like how it pushed my thinking. Second, I found her whole person approach to be motivating for me. The way she sees beauty in the world, focuses on healing, and cares for herself reminded and inspired me.
