I had high expectations for this one. The book is well written and has some great medical stories and I love the journey Michele Harper allowed me to join. In the end, it fell short of what I had hoped it would be. I did capture a few great quotes from both Harper and also from those she quoted. Not a book I would read again, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from checking it out.
I was not into this book, a memoir from a yoga-loving ER doctor. Did not finish.
I wanted to like this book so badly, and to be honest I really did in the beginning. It’s started out strong and inspiring. The author is an amazing writer, I just felt that it lacked flow or a purpose. The book starts out with her as a child and her abusive father, next goes into her divorce and letting the expectations of a life go as she starts her medical career and moves away. However slowly I started to lose focus as it just becomes day to day life as a doctor and felt like it lost substance.

4.75, mostly because I will likely never give true 5/5 stars. This should be a required read for future and current medical professionals. Most of us are in this field for the right reasons and get bogged down in all of the same things this author does as well. Interesting perspective and lens to tell these stories through.

Another book that was not what I expected. In many ways, this reminded me of [b:Final Exam: A Surgeon's Reflections on Mortality|335690|Final Exam A Surgeon's Reflections on Mortality|Pauline W. I really think I should have been a doctor....I enjoyed hearing about her experiences in healing. It’s inspiring and I’m grateful for people choose to be doctors and healthcare professionals.
