This book enchanted me from beginning to end. I just couldn’t stop reading!! Every time I had to do something else I felt the need to go back to my reading.
The story is tender and spicy in really decent levels!! It doesn’t explore too much, but I think is just a good taste of their sexual desires. It’s an historical romance, the story happens around the 1800’s, so of course the ideas of the characters were reserved and I think that this is what levels up a little the spicy of the book. Maybe in some scenes it repeats itself BUT I think that is because it shows us the way that the feelings of the main characters are growing. Something I didn’t like was that sometimes I got confused with the conversations because it doesn’t give too much info about who is talking but can get the idea from the context.
The characters change and grow throughout the story but not all of them, which I think is an essential part of the plot itself, the fact that some characters keep their reserved ideas and bad behaviors and it makes it more interesting. I think it gives you the hope that the main character succeed. I just LOVED IT!
Some of the characters are not well developed and the end was TOO FAST, but I think is part of the “I’ll give in to my desires and dreams” part. Maybe Julia could’ve explore a little more of the backgrounds and make more interesting decisions based on that but the fact is that the story centers around the 2 main characters and their present together, not their past, and it’s not a dramatic past either, is just realistic for their time. Yes, your past can bother you sometimes but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be always there as a dark part of you. They have normal problems for people of that historical moment. And there’s actually a second book that explores more the plot between the antagonist characters. We really need to remember that THIS book is about the main couple. Just the main couple. So maybe, if we want to complete the story we need to read the second book. Is a series people ✨
Some of the tropes are forbidden love, the bad boy falls in love, he falls in love faster and harder, family against the relationship, different ranks in society.
You will not regret it if you pick this book as your reading of the month. Just keep in mind the world that they live in. 🫶🏻

Review - I loved the idea of it. The fact that a Duke could be deprived of his title is something that Quinn hasn't yet written about and it makes for very interesting reading. It is also interesting that his replacement is so unusual. The characters are well-rounded, although some seem to be very one-sided and 2D. For example, I would have liked to have known more about the Dowager Duchess' past, to understand her attitudes, but maybe this is something Julia Quinn could write about later.

It was alright but nothing more. The start was very slow, it took me a while to get used to the writing, but once i got into it, i got to a good riddance. Grace is a lovely character, so are Thomas and Amelia. The other characters kinda felt flat to me and, quite frankly, some deeply annoyed me. I'm glad i tried a Julia Quinn book but i dont know if ill get into a bigger series, simply because of the writing.
tropes: historical romance, forced proximity, love at first sight

Jack Audley has been a highwayman. A soldier. And he has always been a rogue. What he is not, and never wanted to be, is a peer of the realm, responsible for an ancient heritage and the livelihood of hundreds. But when he is recognized as the long-lost son of the House of Wyndham, his carefree life is over. And if his birth proves to be legitimate, then he will find himself with the one title he never wanted: Duke of Wyndham.
Grace Eversleigh has spent the last five years toiling as the companion to the dowager Duchess of Wyndham. It is a thankless job, with very little break from the routine . . . until Jack Audley lands in her life, all rakish smiles and debonair charm. He is not a man who takes no for an answer, and when she is in his arms, she's not a woman who wants to say no. But if he is the true duke, then he is the one man she can never have . . .
I loved this book and most of the characters. I loved that Jack fell hard and fast for Grace.
