I was not impressed by this book. This has so much potential to be a more fantasy like Vampire Academy and honestly it was just a hot mess.

First of all, what the hell was the plot?! There was none until like… the last 100 pages. Most of the book was spending doing almost nothing and nothing of true importance happening.

The romance was beyond lack luster. Like… it didn’t even seem like they cared for each other at all. But then oh yes they do care!

Also for a character that was dead set on killing vampires and running away… nothing of the sort happened.

(3.5) While the representation for several queer identities + the plot twists at the end were really, really good, the annoying ass main character, utter lack of any kind of worldbuilding or nuance, and the typical YA failure to really “take it there” drags this book down. I should have known anything compared to SJM’s cancerous writing would have been like this, but my god. If I have to read another book in which there’s any kind of blood bond / soulmate / twin flame / mating bond situation I’m going to pluck out my eyes with my own fingers—which, by the way, is way darker and gorier imagery than this story warned it would have.
