Good story with good reminders about God's forgiveness.
Almost didn't read this book because I disliked the first book of the series so much. Happy I reconsidered.

Really enjoyed this book, but I will say, Molly’s secret she kept stressed me out to no end! It doesn’t all come out until almost the end of the book, and by that point, I felt that we didn’t get to see everyone’s’ reactions and such. And I thought the ending was a bit rushed because we didn’t see James’ perspective as much. I liked the first book better, but this one was very good too. I really like the author, and I’m glad this series was recommended to me.

I thought this was much better than the first novel in the series, [b:From a Distance|2310220|From a Distance (Timber Ridge Reflections, #1)|Tamera Alexander|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442940115s/2310220.jpg|2316636]. At times it was a bit soap opera-y, but on a whole the characters were very enjoyable and I found myself having hard time putting it down.

A little slow-moving to start, as well as being a somewhat predictable romance, but I have to be honest, I loved the two main characters. A book of this nature is like comfort food: you know what to expect, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. I liked getting to know both Molly and James, and the deeper I got into the book, the faster I wanted to turn the pages. Something else I enjoyed about this book is the reminder of a simple but important life lesson: We all do things we wish we could have a do-over for, but some of the decisions we make simply cannot be undone, and the only thing we can do is make better choices moving forward. Shame and guilt can lead us to wish to hide our poor choices, and it can be easy to forget that even the decision to hide the truth of our previous choices can lead to hurt we never expected or intended. The truth, though sometimes difficult to own, is often easier than trying to hide it and then answer for it later, which is almost always inevitable. I'm going to miss James and Molly, now that I've reached the end of this book.

I am on a journey to discover palatable Christian fiction. This was not it.

I will say that I gave it two stars instead of one because I was actually able to read it to the end.

I just want there to be Christian fiction with substance. I get bored of poorly developed characters but even more than that, I get very triggered by CF’s emphasis on guilt and the consequences of sin. This novel wasn’t as bad as others I’ve read, but that doesn’t make it exempt from critique.

One of the best of Tamera Alexander. Great characters, beautiful setting and an amazing story of redemption, grace and the power of forgiveness.

I found the story line somewhat far-fetched in this one, mostly the part about her being a professor. Were there really female professors with doctorates back then? I'm not sure. I'll have to look that up. Anyway, I love how Tamera doesn't sugar-coat the main character's sin, but brings her to a place of true repentance (not sorry she got caught or sorry for the consequences but sorry for sinning against a holy God) and then shows God's grace and forgiveness.
