Needed a short audiobook, so it seemed time to get another classic under my belt.

I've seen the book described as "heartwarming" many times, and I can definitely see why. Stories of people finding the beauty in life and regaining the will to live have a certain beauty to them, and The Secret Garden really manages to land those themes. Also, the descriptions of spring and the garden were both fabulous and vivid, really managing to paint a picture of the beauty of nature.

My only gripe (and it's very much an "I'm a modern fantasy reader, not a lit-fic reader" kind of thing), is that I kept waiting for the drama to happen and for a plot to start that never existed. I know it's not that kind of book, but part of me does wish for a bit more plot and for conflicts that the children couldn't just bully their way out of.

Still a fun read though, and I can see why this classic has survived as long as it has.

Books truly find you at the right time. I’m here with a heart full of hope after reading this masterpiece—finding companionship in three little friends who share a secret with me, whose wisdom I take to heart, and who gently urge me to befriend the neighborhood bird. Some moments moved me to tears in the most beautiful way. I’ll truly treasure this friendship I’ve built with each of the characters. It felt like Magic that led me to this book during one of the toughest times in my life.

I would call this a sweet read. It’s one of those easy and simple stories that get you smiling and tearing up. You leave the book simply with joy. It’s an easy read so no need to look deep and analyze but it’s so sweet!

This book is a gem! Everything about it is so adorable and fun!!! Made me feel very nostalgic; I miss my childhood days T_T

I actually loved experiencing the audiobook and I enjoyed the book a lot more because of it. The Secret Garden felt like it was best 'read' through audiobook, kinda like a bedtime story. The story itself was nothing memorable but the overall moral is cute. Although I know that Mary and Colin had character arcs throughout the story, it didn't make their personalities less spoiled and more fun to listen to which bumped my rating down (it was also very problematic and racist since it is a product of its time).

I do love Karen Gillan though !!

A favourite of mine as a child before I could view it in it's historical context. I'd prefer not to pick at it and leave it as a sentimental favourite.

Nice story, but it is all very over the top positive. ‘As long as you think positively, you will be fine’. My favourite character Martha is somehow lost in the second half of the book.
