Fantastic middle section. For me the book drifts as we hear from Carney and his life. Although I liked his furniture shop, I preferred the swashbuckling realm of Pepper.

The writing specificity and lyricism is amazing, but unfortunately for as much as Whitehead creates such strong aside images throughout the book, I feel like I have lost the story and the details of what is happening in the moment. Listening to the audiobook, I am constantly rewinding to see if I missed something in all the detail, and it usually feels like something wasn‘t said surprisingly. 

Maybe this genre is not for me, but I felt similarly about Harlem Shuffle and The Intuitionist to be honest, but not about The Nickle Boys.

Exciting plot and fantastic imagery but i was lost half the time due to the trillion side characters and that took away from the intrigue
