While some moments in this book had me weeping, other’s confused me. I would have loved a more in-depth writing of how she and her husband came to their current religious views and what those views really are now. I felt she wanted to go into it but was holding back. In the end, I came away not really understanding what she believed at all, which (to me) was what the entire book was driving towards.

A beautifully written book about the journey that is coming to terms with the beliefs you were born into, realizing your own and watching them be rewritten.

I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but I didn't go into it thinking I would enjoy it as much as I did! Lisa lays her heart out for all to read as she goes through life, love, and so much change she never expected. The tenderness with which she treats herself is inspiring and beautiful and calls the reader to better understand their own self and to move toward compassion and new love, both for the self and for others.

I was captivated by the story, drawn in by the details I could see in my own life, and incredibly encouraged by how Lisa moved forward. She showed me how I might move forward, too.

I highly recommend this to anyone going through hard life changes, anyone who knows someone going through faith deconstruction, anyone close to someone with Down syndrome, and anyone who loves people. This story is a beautiful one and I'm so glad I read it.

I saw a video of her talking about her life and the book on buzzfeed, which led me to the book. I had never heard of her before.

It was interesting to read the story of someone with a very different background and make up of identity to me. It was interesting to read the story of her on-going growing up including her spiritual on-going process, which seems to be moving into Vedanta.

She comes from a devout Christian family, and married a fellow devout Christian, the son of a pastor. It was an interesting glimpse into the world of US republican evangelicals.

This is a very vibrant emotional book. Recommended.

I love Lisa's writing style. She drew me right into the center of her story and didn't let me go until the end of the book.

I have heard bits and pieces of Lisa Gungor's story listening to the Liturgists podcast, but it was truly a joy to see it in more depth in her book. It is an honest and beautiful book, at times painful, joyful, touching, sad, and funny. Lisa has a gift for telling her story in a forthright and poetic way that makes me feel like I can understand her, at least the most that you can understand a person you've never met. She doesn't hold back, and she doesn't soften blows. Reading her story was especially valuable to me because of the places where our stories line up in the beginning, middle, and end. We don't have the same story, but there are enough matching points along our arcs so far that it makes me feel like I'm talking with someone who understands me as well.

I especially love the final chapter, Moment One, which I have heard Lisa read out loud a few times before on the Liturgists podcast. It's a powerful tribute to what it feels like to be a woman learning to fear and resent and then love and cherish your own body and what it can do and seek not to pass that initial shame on to other women.

I’m a fan of Gungor the band, but I wasn’t sure what I was getting with Lisa’s book, I was just excited to dive in. This is one of the most beautiful and honest accounts of complicated faith I’ve ever read.

One of the loveliest memoirs I have had the pleasure of reading. Gungor's style captivated me and her story led me to tears and many giggles. She writes honestly and beautifully about trials and trauma and seeing beauty (and wonder) through it and because of it.
