if only this book didn’t have so many typos… all of the work of hooks that i have previously read has been fantastic. this piece is no exception. i loved so many of the well thought out ideas and innovative concepts brought to light in this book. my favorite aspect of her philosophy is that imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy can be overturned by LOVE and IMAGINATION and COMMUNITY. using these intangible concepts as liberative forces is beautiful and unique to the writings of other Black women who many compare to hooks. as a communication studies and african american studies major, i especially find hooks’ work fascinating because so much of what is spoken about in all of her pieces and especially this one can be applied to my two fields of study. i would have given this one a 5, there are just SO. MANY. TYPOS. :(

This was such a profound read!!! She really does tackle the issues of the ‘geography of the heart’ and is something that I can really resonate with being an immigrant and also a parent to 2nd generation children who will always have the question of ‘where is truly home?’

In true Bell hooks fashion she tackles the issues of race, class and how they all intersect with geography.

I loved it and will definitely be referring to again and again
