whatever you do, don’t reveal all your techniques in a youtube video. you fool, you moron.

A 5 year old could write this. “Best way to attack the enemy is from behind” “eat more food than your enemy so you aren’t more hungry than them” yeah obviously. They say it was generation for its time? Dude just decided to write down something that didn’t even need to be written down because it was common sense.

Direct, no nonsense guide to how to be a general. Some aspects of war never change. Knowing yourself and your enemy is vital. Also good information for world and character building.

First, I have to fan girl for a minute. When I selected this book on Audible, the narrator's name, Aidan Gillen, did not click with me. SO when I began the book, I stopped for a second and said to myself, "That sounds like someone I know. In fact, that sounds like someone I love to watch. That sounds like Petyr Baelish or Littlefinger. OMG, it IS Littlefinger!" So needless to say, I missed a good deal of what he was narrating just because I was going crazy (inside my head). I had to re-group and go back and begin again and focus on the words. (Which were spoken so beautifully!)

I was amazed at the simplicity and sense that The Art of War made. I didn't really think I would get much out of the book. I was only trying it because I put it on my To-Read list out of curiosity and because I know how highly regarded it is among certain circles. But there were wisdoms in it that didn't hurt me to consider. I think I may actually read the book with my own eyes in order to really get everything. Because as much as I tried, I have to admit that I would hear Mr. Gillen read something that would cause me to think, "omg, that is just what Littlefinger would do" then I would begin thinking about Game of Thrones and THEN I would have to back up to re-listen.

I had fun, in case you can't tell.

Glad I finally got to read this, although it was kind of a slog. The most interesting part was definitely the translation notes behind the scenes, it was obvious the team behind this translation really nitpicked their way through every possible interpretation of the characters.
