I actually ended up really enjoying this book. I wish I’d read it individually rather than in tandem with Empire of Storms to allow myself time to become absorbed and invested in each book separately rather than them seeping together.
In my opinion this paled in comparison to EOS because there was so much action going on in EOS and I wanted to keep reading EOS that I found I was annoyed when I had to return for some TOD chapters. However toward the second half of my tandem read I started reading bigger chunks of each book and actually I think this is a really important read and gives the reader some more insight into Chaol and his inner thoughts.
This is a book with a beautiful love story romantically but also a love story where Chaol learns acceptance and learns to love himself again after so much trauma and self loathing. I found the ending rather emotional and cannot wait for the final book because I know the intertwining of all of these characters finally coming together is actually going to be incredible.
Satisfactory ending? Yes.

I liked this one, but I'm really glad I tandem read it with Empire of Storms because it was a bit slow at the beginning and I would've missed reading about the others (Aelin, Rowan, Aedion, etc.). I really loved Chaol's character development in this one and Nesryn has become a favorite character for me!

To my surprise I ended up enjoying this book. A the start around the first 100 pages I considered giving up, but I'm happy that I stuck along. Around pages 250-350 I realized that <Yrene and Chaol would end up together, and was incredibly disappointed, because I shipped Chaol and Nesryn. But by the end of the book, I was glad that Yrene and Chaol are end game (I'm almost certain they're end game, I know there is a book to go but they're married). I don't mind Nesryn and Sartaq, I don't have any strong opinions on their relationship. I really liked Chaol's character arc.> I hated Chaol from the middle of Crown of Midnight. I still don't like him very much, but he isn't the worst.

Possibly my favorite book in the series. Does a great interpersonal exploration of depression and physical limitations for a fantasy series.
Great plot development as well.

If there was ever a time for a redemption arc, this was it! Although filler between Empire of Storms & Kingdom of Ash, it was a solid smooth read from start to finish!
