The beginning of this book dragged but it got better as it went. I did the tandem read (reading at the same time as Empire of Storms) and that helped a lot. I probably wouldn’t have finished this as quickly if it was all Chaol and Nesryn.

What a wonderful book. I really enjoyed my time in Antica with Chaol. The royal family of the Khaganate, especially Sartaq, were some of my favorite characters to get to know in the series. The court intrigue, the goings on if the Torre Cesme, the lurking evil, the Ruk riders, and the personal journey of healing are all part of what makes this book one of my favorites of the series.

I was a little hesitant to read this book at first but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I was going to. I loved seeing a new perspective in this world.

there was a lot in this book that i loved, i love how it felt similar to the earlier books in the series, and i loved reading chaol’s pov, but i felt like it was wayyyy too long - there was so much unnecessary detail (especially at the start) that i really struggled to finish it :/
