I think this book was a good addition to the throne of glass series, but it was definitely not the best one. If I hadn’t done the tandem read, it would have been dreadful. I think the only way people should read this book is in conjunction with empire of storms. The ending was not as enthralling as EOS but definitely gave me motivation to hurry into Kingdom of Ash!!!! I think the journey that Chaol went through emotionally and physically is very important and shows the strength of people who live with physical disabilities.

i did this as part of a tandem read with empire of storm. i really enjoyed this book, despite it being placed directly after a book with a major cliffhanger. the tandem read absolutely helped with this, because i only had about 100 pages left to read of this rather than the whole of ToD.

i really enjoyed seeing a new area that is so far detached from adarlan. the PoVs of both Chaol and Nesryn were good to see and i enjoyed meeting a lot of new characters. this provides a lot of context for things in empire of storm as well.

overall this book was great, just not as a follow up to empire of storm (unless done as a tandem read) because the events take place at the same time.

The beginning of this book dragged but it got better as it went. I did the tandem read (reading at the same time as Empire of Storms) and that helped a lot. I probably wouldn’t have finished this as quickly if it was all Chaol and Nesryn.

What a wonderful book. I really enjoyed my time in Antica with Chaol. The royal family of the Khaganate, especially Sartaq, were some of my favorite characters to get to know in the series. The court intrigue, the goings on if the Torre Cesme, the lurking evil, the Ruk riders, and the personal journey of healing are all part of what makes this book one of my favorites of the series.
