It could *almost* be a standalone book; the plot and character development are honed and satisfying. We get some answers to mysteries! Do not skip this book just because Aelin is not in it!!!!

If there was ever a time for a redemption arc, this was it! Although filler between Empire of Storms & Kingdom of Ash, it was a solid smooth read from start to finish!

ADDED AFTER 2023 REREAD

Y’all, this book wrecks me. The growth of characters we know and love, the new characters and setting, the HEART that this book has. It’s great. It’s underrated. It’s too long, but Sarah certainly didn’t pull any punches. I will be a Chaol apologist until the day I die. 4.5 stars.
