It's been a hot minute since we've visited with Hiro and Maddox, and honestly, it's like we never left. They're just as chaotic and in love as ever, despite Maddox's best efforts to try to keep Hiro completely and perfectly safe. But this time, there's an added layer of emotionality to the whole thing - they're on their way to Japan to meet Hiro's relatives.

The reunion is all very heartwarming, but a little tense. There are answers that Hiro wants, but he doesn't want to be pushy. He knows these conversations need to happen, but the timing has to be right. And supporting him through it all, as always, is Maddox. And their ragtag family of tag-along ghosts. The situation isn't helped by the fact that ghosts seem to be extremely attached to Hiro's cousin's boyfriend. But what else did we expect to happen, honestly?

The mystery of the ghosts leads them to a local police officer, Nakamura Shion. Shion comes across as a no-nonsense kind of police officer, but he soon becomes wrapped up in the investigation, and completely entangled with Hiro and Maddox. And I honestly think he's a great addition to the group! Especially the deeper we get into this investigation.

The investigation and mystery of this book was honestly incredibly spooky and intense. Hiro has a habit of throwing himself head first into trouble. And trouble usually has a habit of hitting him and Maddox over the head - sometimes almost quite literally. And this case is no different. It takes a toll, and it shows. Thankfully, Hiro and Maddox have a solid support system around them for times just like these. And that now includes Shion (and his massive crush on Hiro's brother, Nicolás).

With another spooky (and borderline terrifying) case wrapped up, I'm not sure if we'll be seeing any more of this series or not. But with the introduction of a couple new characters and some new dynamics, I'm guessing there's a good chance we'll see more of Hiro and Maddox in the future, and I'm really looking forward to it!

OMG This book was action packed! So much had happened that I thought I must be near finished and it was only about 50% done. The story starts with Maddox and Hiro getting ready to travel to Japan to meet Hiro’s cousin, aunt and grandmother who reached out to him off page wanting to meet. We learn a lot about Hiro’s biological family and why they didn’t take him in after his parents died, and of course the trip doesn’t go smoothly because why would it when Hiro always runs off after ghosts? We also get a great insight into Maddox’s past and family dynamic.

I am so here for a Nakamura/Nicolas romance as well!!!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

This is book 4 in the Medium Trouble series and once again Hiro and Maddox find themselves running into trouble with some chaos on the side. It all starts in the plane on the way to Japan and it’s pretty much full on and non stop until the very end. Of course Reggie, Natalie and Keaton are included in the mayhem as well as some new and very interesting side characters. I was hooked from the very beginning as this intriguing storyline wound its way through some twists and turns until Hiro, Maddox (and their human and ghostly helpers) bested the baddies. Of course there’s the signature hilarity, sass and banter this author is well known known for, some steam, some sweet, a very satisfying conclusion to the chaos and one very swoon worthy “oh my heart” moment that left me a touch giddy and with a huge smile 😊.
