challenging dark emotional reflective sad fast-paced

When I first started reading, I was so sure I had it all figured out—I knew who did it and exactly why.
Then came the twist with the teacher… 🤯
And just when I thought I had my footing again, the family connections started unraveling—another twist!
And then that ending?!
This is a fast-paced, addictive whodunit with sharp turns and surprises all the way through. I flew through it and can’t wait to jump into the rest of the series.

A haunting, uncomfortable, and compassionate look into a nightmare scenario for any parent. Makes you think hard about unconditional love.

This book is a psychological thriller that dives  into the emotional wreckage of a family torn apart by a murder accusation. At the heart of the story is Sonya Salvador, a mother who is fiercely loyal to her son Ethan.  When Ethan is arrested for the murder of his best friend, Henry Cain, Sonya refuses to believe he’s guilty—even as the evidence mounts.

Sonya’s voice is raw and determined, and her relentless pursuit of the truth is admirable.  Her inner conflict between maternal instinct and creeping doubt is one of the book’s strongest elements. Ethan, meanwhile, is portrayed with just enough ambiguity to keep readers guessing. Is he a misunderstood teen caught in a web of lies, or is there something darker beneath the surface?

Felix, Ethan’s father and a police officer, adds another layer of tension. His refusal to believe in his son’s innocence fractures the family further, and his strained relationship with Sonya adds emotional weight to the investigation. The dynamic between the three is compelling, though at times the dialogue feels a bit forced and the pacing uneven.

While the book delivers a few solid twists, the overall execution doesn’t quite match the intensity of its premise. Still, for fans of domestic thrillers with morally gray characters and tangled family secrets, this one is worth a read.
