I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Random House!

Professor Chandra Follows His Bliss is one of my favorite reads! Professor Chandra is relatable, which considering he’s an economics professor hoping to win the Nobel Prize and I’ve only taken a high school level economics class, is impressive.

I’ve been wanting a read about trying to find yourself, or some sense of truth, and this did it. It wasn’t filled with cliches and everything wasn’t easy and filled with rainbows and lollipops. The characters felt real and had their flaws.

This is one of those reads that any review I write seems inadequate and it’s hard to move on to the next read. I was hooked within the first few pages. If I checked this book out from the library, it’d go on my list of books to buy!

Five million stars! If I could give this book more than five stars, I would! By page 10, I was chuckling at the humor. I found myself frustrated by characters’ actions, almost like they were my own family members, and cheering when Professor Chandra had a win.

I LOVE this book and know it’s one I’ll want to reread, which I can’t say for every book I enjoy. I also know, when I go to reach for a pen to underline a passage that resonates, that I’m going to want to keep this book in a prominent place on my bookshelf.

It’s lovely to go on this spiritual and familial journey with Professor Chandra and his family members. Life is complicated and families are complicated, but this book gives so much hope that, to quote Gil Scott-Heron, “no matter how far wrong you’ve gone, you can always turn around.”

And the ending? No spoilers, but all I have to say to author Rajeev Balasubramanyam is “thank you, thank you, thank you.”

I received this as a Goodreads giveaway, with gratitude, and these are my unbiased thoughts.

This was an effortless (in the best way), gently funny read. I adored Professor Chandra and his bumbling and yet dignified attempts to find a new path forward after he narrowly misses winning the Nobel Prize in Economics for the umpteenth time. How does a man turning 70 change his ways? His immediate family has all scattered to different corners of the globe and he's realizing there may just be more to life than incessant work. As he sets out to travel, visit his children, and try a little spiritual adventuring, he begins to find new ways to communicate and to heal his relationships. If you're looking for a feel-good book that will leave you with a smile on your face, this would be sure thing.

Started slow. Picked up when he started following his bliss.

As you can tell from my rating, this was only an okay read for me.

I don't know if it's the because of the title and/or the cover, but I was expecting something light, charming and whimsy.

I usually like books about changing one's ways, finding one's bliss, although I roll my eyes at some of the pseudo-spiritual stuff some people get up to, while also being in the camp of if it makes them happy and doesn't hurt anyone ...

But I don't know, I went with the flow but I always wanted to get out and do something else. If you don't care for the characters it's difficult to get invested in what happens to them. That's not to say the novel was bad, I just didn't quite feel it.

It's summer, and sometimes you want to read something light; Professor Chandra Follows His Bliss is light. Chandra is a professor at a prestigious university and he is that-close to something he has wanted all his life, a Nobel Prize in Economics. And then, once again, he doesn't get the prize and he has an accident, and he realizes he's almost seventy, divorced, estranged from his kids, and alone.

In a crazy move, Chandra heads to Esalen and suddenly everything starts to shift and change.

An ideal little summer read.

Sweet novel of uptight Cambridge economics professors fall from grace after not receiving the nobel prize.
