This was a good book with a nice storyline to it. It was set in the UK which was a bonus for me as I actually knew where most of the places were! I loved that this dealt with some of the inherent class issues that there can be however I think this was a fairly extreme version. The characters felt detailed and well rounded and I loved the personal development of Archie to learn to stand up for himself as well. Really enjoyed this book

"There was an unexpected freedom in the perceived lack of choice."
Jay Northcote is one of my favorite contemporary authors. Every time I want to read something light, with a cohesive plot, lots of fluff, and a little bit of drama, his books are my first choice. So, of course, I'm gonna read the Christmas story he publishes every year. After all, this is the season! And a story of opposites attract? I'm gonna like it, or so I thought.
I didn't hate this story. I just couldn't love it. It does everything right: the plot is simple but coherent; the characters are likable and relatable (they can be a bit one-dimensional but I found them interesting, nevertheless); the pacing is decent and I liked the writing style. Everything that I love in Northcote's books is in this book. But there's something lacking. Something is missing- I don't know what it is, but something is missing- so I couldn't love the story.
So I feel a little disappointed by this but if you're looking for a light, fun, M/M Christmas story, this might be a good choice.

This was exactly what I wanted: a cute little gay Christmas romance. The characters grabbed me immediately, and the romance was cute, spicey, and surprisingly very healthy and communicative. My only complaint would be that it was not Christmasy enough. Overall, it was cute, quick, and very enjoyable.
This was recommended on a thread about boycotting Hallmark, and I am very glad it was. I enjoyed this way more than anything on that channel.
**Audiobook Review**
I don’t know if I’d qualify this as a holiday story…though the holidays do happen through some of it. This screams more of opposites attract, coming out, upsetting the parents and defying the social classes kind of book. I really like that the couple decides honesty is the best policy so we can avoid the whole miscommunication thing in this book!
The way Cal and Archie meet is cute and I like their instant attraction. It’s obvious from the beginning neither of them will be able to keep things casual.
I hate that Archie pseudo hurts Cal before the holidays but I’m glad he decides to follow through on standing up to his parents while there instead of waiting.
I was a bit confused about Archie’s dad’s complete 180 with no explanation. I’m guessing it has something to do with his friend but that sort of came out of nowhere and was a bit unbelievable.
Hamish Long is great with ALL the characters and voices in this one!
