a story of a family - of the women and their journeys and struggles.
I found this book hard to read - more because of the subject matter brought up a lot of feelings in me.
There were a lot of threads of the story that remained unwoven - which I suppose is how things go in life. I think i wanted more of a story. I found the narrative of maggie difficult to accept - i felt it only showed one side and did not feel very complex.

I absolutely loved this beautiful book. It is driven by well-developed characters rather than plot, but since the story takes place over five years, there is no lull in the action. This is an emotional read, and you’re guaranteed to feel a wide spectrum of things, from heartbreak to laughter. Vermette is an excellent, skilled writer and it has been a joy to read this book. Reading the Break next with high hopes!
