The book is quite 'literary' with Spartan paragraphs that simply describe how characters are without showing you, and none of the characters are very likeable. They also continuously reveal themselves to be pretty horrible people as they lose parts of themselves.

- There was no relation between the things happening in Emilia's time and the events/changes in Kate's time. Throughout the book and especially the ending, I missed the logical consequences of an admittedly always illogical time travel aspect. The events simply were not connected.
- It is mentioned throughout the book that Kate and Ben have mixed heritage, but nothing much in what they say and do reflects that.
- The ending is chaotic and the final chapter is not very satisfying. I think if the events have to be explained this much in the final chapters (still not making a hole lot of sense) and there is no 'aha' moment referring back to something you've read in previous chapters, the plot just doesn't come together.
Moderate: Suicide
Minor: Child death
