I really enjoyed this! It’s not a memoir and it’s not a self help book. Joanna takes the opportunity to share parts of her own self-reflection as she reviews her life this far and plans toward what’s next. In the process she inspires and encourages us all to tap into our own stories.

I’m a big fan of all things Magnolia, and I enjoyed learning more about Jo as a person rather than as a celebrity. However, I found the book to be too wordy and repetitive with her self-help advice, although she does brings up some very insightful points along the way.

I thought i would love this but I found it to be incredibly boring. I love Joanna Gaines but I was pretty disappointed. I thought it would include stories from other people so I was a little disappointed it didn't. Parts of it were great. I liked hearing their story and was suprised to learn how much stress and trepidation she had along the way however i just didn't enjoy it as a whole

I’ll be honest, I’ve started and stopped this book so many times, that I figured it was just as good to get it off my shelf as a DNF. I like Joanna Gaines as much as every other elder millennial but I found this to be extremely slow and a bit pointless. I don’t feel like the reader learns much more about it, but it is more of a self help book to encourage people to learn more about themselves. Nevertheless, it was repetitive and didn’t hold my attention.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced reading copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.

Loved reading about Joanna’s view of the world and what she expects of herself as a person. It was an inspiring book with good ideas I’ll put to use. The only reason I gave this book four stars is because it felt a bit repetitive and vague when she mentioned bits of her life.

It was nice to read some of the same things I’ve dealt with, similar emotional journeys, etc. but like many other readers, it felt a little disjointed, and I kept wondering what the exact point of the book was.
Overall still a good read, but I won’t be purchasing a copy for my permanent library or for re-reading.

In this memoir, Joanna Gaines opened up her heart to tell her story of growth and overcoming fear from childhood, throughout opening her business, and through her years as a wife and mother in the public eye.
To be honest, I was disappointed by the small amount of actual stories in this memoir. Especially when the word “stories” is in the title. It was a lot of soul searching, therapist speak, and emotional support that, if people want to read, they’re just not going to seek out a house flipper for. I will say that some of it had perspectives that I don’t feel are mainstream–like her sections about lifelong learning and keeping life fun.
Still, I wanted to learn more about her backstory and behind the scenes moments. There was some of that here–the stories from childhood, and the inspiration behind roller blading on set really lended a lot of weight!
But, pound for pound, I just didn't enjoy this one.
No rating.

I really expected the story to be more about fixer upper or about their lives in general. This felt a little like a self help
Book.
