I began reading this book thinking that it was going to be a great read, and for me, it wasn’t.  It was just okay.  I had trouble connecting with the characters.  I generally disliked Victor Frankenstein, because he never thought about the consequences of his actions or how the Monster would react to life.  Thus, the Monster has terrible and vile behavior due to his creator’s lack of foresight in his work.

Mary Shelley's lack of experience in writing is very prominent in this book, with every character sounding extremely similar in point of view. However, the story is really gripping and incredibly interesting. I analyzed this book in an English class, and it's been the best book to analyze so far. There are so many ways to look at and read this novel, and in-depth character analysis was honestly so interesting.

The story is certainly a well-written, interesting read, with a good premise and plot. The chapters from the creature's perspective are the closest to 'enjoyable', but the other parts of the narrative are usually slow, often depressing and occassionally infuriating. I have a feeling that was the author's intention, but all the same - while I'm glad I have read the book - I probably won't be rushing to reread it.

First off, Dan Stevens' performance of the audiobook is almost half of the appeal for me! It makes the somewhat archaic language come to life.
The story dark and nauseating. It made me feel all cold, alienated, sticky and spiteful. But it's hard for me to truly apreciate something that made me so uncomfortable. I found the first third to be the most thrilling, propelling the rest of the novel which then slightly dragged behind. It's definitely deserving of its fame and standing, but it is a difficult novel to read. Sometimes it meanders too much, dwelling on the descriptions of the countryside or getting lost too much in the thoughts of the main characters. But still really good.
