Gobsmacked omg. What a good book. If ur gay and u liked it you should read the e lit novel Patchwork Girl
The writing can be a bit dry, which is the only reason I deducted a 1/4 star. Otherwise, it's definitely a timeless story.
Read it a long time ago. One of those great stories that never leaves your head. A great lesson on the pursuit of true love and parental acceptance masked with a breathtaking atmosphere.

An all-time favourite — not because it’s “scary,” but because it’s melancholy and layered. I adore the questions about humanity, creation, and isolation.

"Am I to be thought the only criminal, when all human kind sinned against me?"
I looooved reading this book, now I understand the love & devotion to Mary Shelley! And she was 18 when she wrote this?! The format is superb, the writing, the pace, the characters... so good!
It is nothing like you think it's going to be... It's definitely not a horror story, more like a philosophical undertaking. Humankind can be so wretched! But the dæmon, oh!, the dæmon...
