An interesting story, poorly told, too often in a hyper-active, exclamation-laden imitation of Hunter S. Thompson. An objective book about his financial crimes, or a more humble book about his addiction and recovery, would be fascinating. This read is one long humble brag, adolescent, self-congratulatory, and begging for adulation.
The excessive use of exclamation points did me in. Jordan Belfort may be a wolf on Wall Street but he is no writer . Terrible.
Too long but interesting, a drug addled criminal breaks all kinds of laws makes millions and then finally goes to prison for a few months, he should have had more company there.
Jordan Belfort is incredibly smart, and this shines through in his writing style. Every other sentence has double-meaning, his descriptions are fabulously precise and hilarious, and he criticizes everyone with an even hand - himself included. I wholeheartedly disagree with the reviews that attack the book for not being remorseful enough. Be honest with yourself: that would be a boring read if you ever saw one! Rather, Belfort focuses on his lifestyle and daily behaviors. He *is* remorseful about the way he lived, but he puts all of that in innuendos: this allows him to keep the read entertaining by making jokes unabated. I regularly laughed out loud as I was reading.
Admittedly, the storyline is not this book's strong suit. I didn't mind, though, because Belfort's writing style is so entertaining. I would read anything he writes. To all the people who did not enjoy the book... read between the lines

This book almost reads like fiction because it's so outlandish and over the top. It's also very sad and truly shows what addiction can do to a person (I wasn't really expecting that to be the "message" out of the book, but I didn't know much about Jordan Belfort before I picked this up). I haven't actually seen the movie, so now I'm curious to see how they portray Jordan in the film.
I hated it, but I couldn't stop reading it. I always did have a thing for charming bad boys, but this is an extreme case

I’m having a hard time thinking of a star rating - I hated this but it was entertaining nonetheless. This guy really thinks he’s smart and wants to make sure we all know that everyone else he meets thinks he’s clever, too. Some real “and everybody clapped” moments.
