This was a decent read, it got better with time. The incessant listing of prices in the first few chapters was extremely annoying. I just don't care that much that you spent 12k on a comforter. It also got really annoying that all the characters had nicknames, that were sometimes interchanged with their real names. Part of the time I had no idea who the author was referring to, and it was hard to keep track of it all. It did get more entertaining the more it went on, but I just wouldn't highly recommend this book.
3.5 Some of the things in this made me cringe but that was to be expected.
Despite doubts from 43 hours ago or so... I MADE IT.
My opinion that Belfort was nothing but a brat stands, however genius he was. I'll give him credit for depicting his manic drug rush so vividly, as well as for that one bit about protecting Nadine from indictment for the sake of children, but that's about it. It sounds like he's learned enough, and dealing with the knowledge that his children will read this book at some point is gratifying enough for me. Why do I need gratification? Well, I just put myself through 520 pages of whining which, yes, I could have stopped at any time... but the bastard is unfortunately decently good at what he does. I also wanted to see him crash and burn, which didn't really happen, so he won another round there.
Not sure where this review is going.
Read if you want an insight to how unhinged and uncontrolled New York's financial elite were at some point. /let's pointedly ignores the use of past tense/ Read if you want to know how *not* to ignore your demons, abusive relationships, and toxic behaviors. And read if you want to consciously feel grateful about a life not addicted to money, power, and or drugs.
Also, for the love of everything holy, buy this book secondhand.
Three stars because as much as I came to despise Belfort, the guy has a knack for telling a story--I might've even liked this book if it were a fictional story. I'd just never admit that to his face.

Realized I couldn’t care less about some rich finance bro and his obsession with Cocaine.

This is the most self aware man in the world, and you cannot tell me otherwise. The way he is able to be his own unreliable narrator is extremely impressive, as is the way that you, the reader, know that he does not feel that way now, even though he writes his past extremely vividly - almost too vividly, I don’t think every single person needed a paragraph-long description of them, but I’m not complaining too much. I’m actually very impressed at how accurate the movie was to events that occurred, even though they definitely compressed the timeline. I just want to know how much money this man has now!
Jordan Belfort is a douche - I truly believe that this is a fact! But what really bothered me in this book was his writing, what the f*ck was that?! Lots of exclamation points, unnecessary swearing (I mean... really?!)... I wonder if he had a coaching for this book!
If I can give you a piece of advice, watch the movie instead of reading it! Of course it's the same freaking story but at least in the movie you have Leo DiCaprio in one of the best performances of his entire career.

The reason I decided to read Wolf of Wall Street is due to the fact that it is soon to be released as a movie.
The book is a true story based on this Stock Traders life as a high roller after making it big. A lot of the lingo about stock was a bit over my head in this book just b/c that is not something I know or am familiar with. But as someone who doesn't understand the stock market, and short sells and all other things related to it I didn't have issues understanding the book. The stock market plays a small roll, mostly the instigator in the book. Most of the book is based on the main characters drug dependency and his high rolling ways. I found the book didn't really have a straight story line and I felt it did bounce a little or skip over more interesting parts of the guys life. I believe a second book was written that goes into more details of his drug benders and money spending. I felt like the book didn't hold up with suspense between chapters and the writing was more matter-of-fact than I enjoy.

If you like to talk to that guy at parties who loves to tell all his stories about being high, and you'd like to have that high multiplied by millions of dollars, then this book is probably for you.
C said it sounded like "Tucker Max" and it does have some similarities. This book made me angry.
It goes on forever and with about 100 pages to go I realized that this "epic" tale didn't even include how the guy gets caught. I read those last 100 pages fuming. He had some adventures that were crazy enough that I'd be willing to read about them, but the dude needed a better editor and he really needed an outsider to tell his story. His moments of insight were hollow. Everyone in his life was a caricature. Always having his skewed perspective just added to my exhaustion with him. I'm glad I didn't buy this book.
I'm not going to read his next book.

i think this is the only book ive ever read where ive preferred the movie, i do like how the book has this whole extra part about his drug addictions but the ending felt rushed and was different to the ending in the movie
