I read this in middle school and remember thinking it was really boring. I'm guessing it's better than I thought then. I need to reread it to do it justice.

This one took me awhile to finish, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Part I was good, Part II was slow, and Part III was excellent. I liked Pip at the beginning, but while he was going through his character transformation there were times I didn't like him. But he's redeemed by the end and I liked the person he eventually became. I think Dickens' original ending was a better fit for the story than the one he eventually used. I don't think the original ending was too sad, but rather very fitting to the story and characters.
Overall, a great read. It reminds me of how I felt about Pride and Prejudice. I almost gave up on both of these, but am so glad I didn't because I ended up really enjoying both. Just think what I would have missed out on!

I don't know why, but I had a really hard time engaging in this story. It seemed to take too long for the story to get where it needed to go.
At times quite unexpectedly hilarious, and at others a very revealing mirror of the human condition, as great novels are wont to be. A bit lengthy at times in suspense by description of random scenery (as seems to be popular at that period), but an enjoyable read.
Never have I wanted to throttle a literary character more than Pip Pirrip.
Hated both endings but a good Dickens book to teach.
