Having heard that Child's books are good thrillers, I was interested in giving it a go, especially as the character Jack Reacher has had 2 films made about him, and now a TV series. The book didn't disappoint. It was a page turner and the plot was engaging and clever enough not to make me roll my eyes, the way some others have. The reason I gave it only 2 stars, and not more, is because I usually give crime/detective/thriller novels only 2 stars unless they go beyond the basics of the genre. Some books will give in-depth character studies, or comment on social/cultural issues. This didn't, which is not necessarily a bad thing depending on what you want from your thrillers. So, yes, it's a good plot and it makes sense without expecting too many stretches of the imagination, it doesn't do more than that. Jack Reacher is still as enigmatic as he was at the beginning of the book, I'm no wiser about anything significant politically, socially, or culturally, so just the 2 stars.

An entertaining read, but a lackluster ending. Still recommended.

Reacher seemed to be more of a jerk than normal in this one, but I still liked it enough to give 4 stars.

First read: Really good and not slowed down by  unnecessary detail that slows some other Reacher books down. I can see why it was adapted (5*)

Re-read: multiple POVs - increases intrigue. Reading the descriptions of gigantic Reacher, knowing Tom Cruise played him in the film adaptation of this book is absolutely hysterical to me! I really enjoyed this again. It feels straight to the point. Some more background on Reacher (which I always enjoy) and I got some giggles too. Reacher: "4 in the morning is when the KGB went knocking on doors" Me: *pictures*: "the KGB will wait for no-one" from The Office. (5*)

I love Jack Reacher.

Another solid Reacher novel- not the best (The Enemy is still my favorite so far), but pretty decent all around. Another story with Reacher in Bruce Branner mode- aimless drifter trying to stay off the grid- except when he doesn't go Incredible Hulk when he gets mad, he goes Jack Bauer and kills EVERYONE! Not always the mosr original, but regardless, you can't deny that Jack Reacher is bad a$$!!

I seem to pick up Jack Reacher books a random points (21, 20, 4 and now 9) and yet I never feel like I’ve missed anything, there doesn’t appear to be any underlying storyline I’m missing out on. This one felt familiar from the outset, it was only after checking I realised this is the one the film was based on. It all seems very obvious from the beginning and had me questioning why/how Reacher would become involved, and that first chapter felt pretty long. Once Reacher turns up though, things pick up and there’s lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I like Reacher as a character, although he is also quite annoying, he seems to know a huge amount about everything! Who knows which book in the sequence I will end up reading next
