Lee Child

3.97 AVERAGE

One of the better books out of the first 11, maybe the best, probably my new favorite.

We're back to rogue Reacher in this one, flexing his investigative skills and his combat skills, rather than the "pulled into a working team as an expert".

The pacing is some of the best out of the series and by this point Lee Child has gotten good at building to climactic endings and high tension fights, which often felt rushed in the earlier books.

While I thought the movie based on this book was pretty weak, I see why they chose this out of all the books. Definitely one of the more interesting and intriguing plots

This was actually so fun! It's been a while since I've read a Reacher book and it was nice to get back into the groove. He's such a little freak, I love him.
We had women in this book!!! Like actual women with more than two lines!!! Ambitious, utterly fearless Yanni and unflinchingly loyal, steadfast Rosemary and contentious, fiercely intelligent Helen. I love them all so much and I'm so pissed two of them got cut from the movie.
Speaking of the movie, it was very odd to be in my MindReacher's head again, whilst reading about events that I watched happen to CruiseReacher. Odd but not insurmountable.
Anyway this was a romp and very fun and got me back into the swing of things! Onto the next one!

Finished!! It’s been probably over a year since I read a Reacher book and now I can’t stop myself - I’ve downloaded 7 more onto the kindle and I was straight onto the next last night when I finished this one.

As for the book itself, just a classic formula for Jack Reacher - he gets himself involved in something bigger than himself by starting at the bottom and working his way up to take down the big dogs. In this case it was the Russian ex gulag prisoners assassinating business competitors and hiding their bodies under the roads they get contracted to pave. Loved it and I’m looking forward to getting through my last 6 books in the collection before November when the next one drops.

To be honest, this book has been sitting on my desk at work, with me purposefully avoiding it. I can't tell you why I didn't want to read it, but I think it has to do with I kept picturing Tom Cruise in my head. Anyways, I finally picked it up today, and now I'm mad at myself for not reading it sooner. It's such a good book. It flows and had a good plot with some twists and turns. And I loved the name of the main "bad guy." Very clever, and since I speak Russian, it was also very well researched :) The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars, is there were times when I was thinking "nah, I don't believe that." I guess I have difficulty suspending my disbelief when reading a non-fantasy novel.

Not my genre of choice, but I suppose I join book clubs to force me to read things outside of my norm. Fast-paced, interesting, no obvious plot holes...I might get my dad a few books in this series for Father's Day.

Possibly the best reacher book so far. Loved the way the story built and the final ending. Didn’t realize this was the one made into a movie. Might have to see the movie now even though I am not a Tom cruise fan.
