EDIT 16/4/20: reread this because the quarantine is giving me much more time and i was nostalgic. this is such a wild ride! was thought-provoking for me in terms of thinking about the Chinese bl 'blackened' character type, the mbti types of the two characters, etc. sqq's treatment of lbh really makes me wince sometimes, lol...

I really enjoyed this, but it feels less polished and tight as compared to mdzs. There's some dubcon / problematic content in this one. I can tell that this is her first novel and it's quite interesting to see the less polished storytelling. Now, on to her latest book, Heaven Official's Blessing.

“However, you don’t need to dwell on it too much. If you have no way of becoming strong, I’ll be by your side and protect you.”

This is my first book by this author and it was a wild ride. I had originally wanted to read the official english translations but I didn’t think I could wait that long for all the entries so I just decided to go for the fan-translation and I’m glad I did. I could not have handled all those cliff-hangers.

Now, Shen Yuan has been reading this novel for a while now and wow does he hate the ending.

This novel had an incredible amount of foreshadowing, dangling plot lines everywhere, mystery after mystery, layer upon layer of red herrings. And at the very end—not a single one paid off!

It was enough to make him puke a fountain of blood.

Shen Yuan tragically dies after finishing this novel but when he awakes, he finds himself transmigrated into the very same novel he criticised but not as the hero, Luo Binghe, but as his despicable, some might say scum-villain, master Shen Qingqiu, whom he knows will he viciously killed by the hero later in the book. Oh boy. Cue panic. This book was hilarious. Shen was in contact with the book’s system and every time he tried to do something nice, so the hero wouldn't kill him viciously in the future, it kept blowing him off. Not the self-insert fanfic some of us dream about.

Warning! OOC warning! ‘Shen Qingqiu’ would not take the initiative to see Luo Binghe. 】

I was dying as I read this. Now, after being able to override this function, he starts to befriend Binghe, which leads to major changes in plotlines in the book, specifically the romance plotlines. Luo Binghe had a harem of women in the original story but now with his precious Shizun’s attention, his romantic interests change. The whole training by ‘accidentally’ falling into his teacher’s lap with an oblivious Shen Qingqiu, was hilarious.

To clear up the plot, in short, this was a shameless master-disciple couple, spending all day on some nameless mountain ignoring their duties to papapa, going down the mountain to fight monsters and papapa, using papapa to settle misunderstandings, still needing a round of papapa before dying, continuing to papapa after death, continuing to papapa as before after resurrection…… story.

For the characters, Shen Qingqiu, was cruel and downright abusive to Binghe before the transmigration. Now Shen Yuan as a character was just trying to survive and ensure he doesn’t die, all while making friends and allies in different places and inadvertabtly giving previously one-dimensional characters fully fleshed out personalities.

Luo Binghe on the other hand needs serious therapy. When he said and I quote: “I hate myself for being useless. I hate myself for not being able to get anybody to stay. Never… has anyone been willing to choose me.”, I damn near cried my eyes out. He has suffered so much abuse and it’s no wonder in the original plotline, once he gained his power, sought out revenge on all who hurt him. But in this timeline, I think he suffers more since he does find someone who he loves but they kept unknowingly turning them away. This particular quote summarises him perfectly.

Even though he suffered that sort of treatment the days when he first entered Cang Qiong Mountain, as soon as Shen Qingqiu showed him a drop of kindness Luo Binghe swept away every injury he had suffered, clean and tidy. He put him in the bottom of his heart without the slightest hesitation.

Sir, that is not healthy. Please get the help you need.

Now for the romance. Talk about inappropriate lol. Age-gap, master-disciple relationships can go very wrong but in this case, I was okay with it (except that one scene). And in the end, I’m glad they got their happy ending.

Also ✨MoShang✨ is just as good as BingQiu. I love both ships so much

“This time, no matter where you want to go, this master will accompany you.”
