I first read half of this book as a prerequisite for an AP history class in my high school years. Now, substantially older and more experienced, I’m so sorry that it took me this long to fully digest this novel as a whole. What an excellent story with characters that propel you through the full history (an arduous 51+ hours of audio) to absorb the lore and truths of society in the US’s Capital Region from foundation to relatively modern day. Plenty enough to still be relevant.

Un autre très bon livre écrit par Michener.

Certains passages sont plus difficiles à lire que d'autres - voire révoltants.

Somme toute, sa lecture a été un bon divertissement.

One thing you have to give the auther is that while he's good at writing, he's better at researching and he's best at moving the story along and fitting in a lot of information in a well-paced structure.

Very satisfying read. Loved the history; loved the details upon details.

Epic historical fiction following three families in the Chesapeake Bay Area over hundreds of years.

I was into it until about halfway through and then I lost focus. It’s well written and interesting but just too long and there’s not enough excitement for the length.

Really fascinating, especially if you're living on the East Coast. Plan on it taking you about a month to read. It's looooong!

It was pretty good. I would have given it four stars if it ended around the end of the 19th century. I slogged through the 1900s part of the book but I did not like it nearly as much. A big reason that I liked it is because it deals with the area around where I live, and have visited the primary location several times. Still an enjoyable, albeit long read.
