Some rushed exposition as the story starts, but overall excellent. 

It's an interesting world, and very engaging.

It just repeats that these things happen, with some very close calls. Also describing or talking about in the past. I put it all as graphic because it just permeates the book, and one character is actively a sexual predator.

It felt like nothing was happening the entire book and all the good stuff I want from a story was happening in the last 50 or so pages.

This is a very good book with great world building. However, it had some things that reminded me a lot of The Children of Blood and Bone (which I know was published later but just so happens that I read TCOBAB first so that's where my mind would go. Which btw if you haven't read it then you should. It's really good and slightly better than this one IMHO). I really liked the characters in this book and I will for sure read the other ones in the series.

This is the first book in a fantasy series I should have started reading a long time ago but I'm glad I was able to pick this up when it was available. The world building didn't leave me feeling lost or confused (although some titles I might have to list again so I don't get the individual groups confused.) Elias and Laia are great on their own as characters and I can't wait to see where the rest of the series takes them next :)
