This is usually not the type of book I would go for, but am I glad I picked this one up!! I absolutely LOVED this story. Ruth’s family has so many issues, and I loved to see her set some boundaries and learn to deal with those issues in a healthier way. Knox was also just so sweet, and his parents made my heart melt I loved them so much. I also found myself laughing a good bit, mainly at his dad’s pun’s, but “Talk shit. Get flicked.” made me literally LOL. I really can’t recommend this story enough.

Ruth and Knox were academic rivals in high school. Or so Ruth thought. Her parents would constantly compare her to not only Knox, but her brothers as well. Her mom never let Knox’s name and accomplishments go, so Ruth has felt tortured by him for a decade. When Knox becomes a new executive hire at her job, she hates it. Knox has moved back home from California after years of living his dream inventing new technology and running his own company. However he’s felt lost in life, numb to everything. The first time he feels anything in years is when he catches sight of Ruth at his new job. He has no idea why she seems to hate him, but he only gets more convinced of his feelings for her. When she gives in to them as well, they begin dating (secretly due to HR issues). When issues arise with Ruth’s family, she sets boundaries and finally realizes how abusive/neglectful her parents have been to her and her brothers. Her dad is outed at his company, and her brother Tom takes over. When word of Ruth and Knox’s relationship gets out, their boss (who’s hated Ruth forever) tries to fire her. Ruth has recorded the whole thing and when Knox quits, they release the recording that outs Dave as a misogynist, effectively tanking the company. Knox’s company PATH moves HQ to Nashville, and he steps back in as CEO, with Ruth rightfully earning a COO position. They both have become much happier.

The last extra chapter wasn’t needed. The ending about the brother also wasn’t needed. All in all I felt very close to the characters and was so emotionally moved
