The vibes were perfect. I wish I could read this again for the first time. The MC’s are my personality now and I had so many feelings I will probably never touch this book again, definitely recommend!

Idk if it would be better to physically read this book but the audiobook version made all of the lines sound so corny and it was driving me crazy.

typical ya fantasy it was sweet with minor twists and semi compelling

Extremely [wiggling hand like a seesaw] it was fine. It was a very fast easy read. Liked the riff on the Six Swans/Wild Swans tale and the East Asian inspired fantasy but I found myself very disappointed with how everything unravelled I found it *so* black and white that it got desperately boring.
SpoilerThe main evil suspects are indeed evil. The evil stepmother being not evil was such a cool setup and then she turned out to be unambiguously good and doing everything For The Kingdom and
i was like blease,, can't we have a lil bit of complexity. Just a little. as a treat. Also small note and not the book's fault but because of those east asian vibes every time they said the word bloodsake I was pronouncing it in my head like blood-saké, like the alcohol. and all the gravity of this important magical element was sucked away sdghsdgh. every time i read it i was just like hmm... would I drink blood sake.... How might one distill a blood sake.....blood rice? Rice paddies watered with blood....? and i guess that's a good representation of my reading experience with this book. Really need to stop picking up YA books for their beautiful covers :(((
