Seth & Lydia's Story.

Upset this is another book I purchased a while back. I put it on the back burner for reasons unknown and what I can say that I haven't said in a while about a DH book is that.... I LOVED It!!! I mean don't get me wrong SK is still one of my Fave authors but lately the books have been kinda... BLAH I still enjoy them and can not give them a low rating just because I love the characters so much, but I haven't been in Love with a DH book this way since Bride and Vane's story. Seth story however wasn't it was the 2nd hurtful past I read in all the Dark hunter/ Dream Hunter/ Were Hunter stories, Acheron being the 1st. But unlike Acheron's story Seths wasn't OVERDONE It was just enough heartache, betrayal, and of course torture. That in itself gave it a great score. Lydia was a kickass heroine, the plot was executed well, the slight twists because there was more than one (all of which I guessed)were just great. I can tell as in with any other DH book that I will be seeing more of Lydia and Seth because they're tied into Nior/ Azura and now the Malachai. That I am excited for, Can't wait!

Maybe it's because I've been in the Urban Fantasy for a while, and haven't read a paranormal romance for a bit, but the romance seemed really rushed. And I've skipped some of the Dream Hunter, Were Hunter, Hell Chaser and all the other side shoots of the main stories, and this time I definitely felt it. Also, I think I mentioned this with another of her books - maybe the last one? Anyway, you'd think she had enough Pantheon to choose from without adding yet another into the mix. I like the Egyptian Gods as much as anyone, but maybe make them into an unrelated series? It's starting to bug me that all these Gods are interacting, and that's not touching on the acrobatics she's using to keep everything making some sort of sense. I have the next two already - Time Untime and Styxx. After that I'm not sure I'll continue. And that's a shame because I really loved this series and wish I could support the author (who is kind to her fans even when they gush and invade her personal space. Which I've heard. From a friend. Who met her several years ago at DragonCon and totally wasn't me.) I'm just having a hard time with the buckshot method of storytelling.

Also, if you're going to have a mute character, have a mute character. Don't make her be magically cured. The book was far more interesting with the problem of communication.

This is Seth and Lydia's story, even though we have brief appearances from some of the characters in other books. Sherrilyn Kenyon takes us into the world of Dream-Hunters, Demons and other non-humans.
I have always enjoyed the Dream-Hunter series.

Dream-Hunter Lydia has been charged with the most sacred and dangerous of missions: To descend into the Nether Realm and find the missing god of dreams before he betrays the secrets that could kill her and her kind. What she never expects is to be taken prisoner by the Realm’s most vicious guardian…

Seth’s time is running out. If he can’t hand over the entrance to Olympus, his own life and those of his people will be forfeit. No matter the torture, Seth hasn’t been able to break the god in his custody. Then there’s the beautiful Dream-Hunter Lydia: She isn’t just guarding the gates of Olympus—she’s holding back one of the world’s darkest powers. If she fails, an ancient curse will haunt the earth once more and no one will be safe. But evil is always seductive...

Finally, the day of a new release in the Dark Hunter realm has come. I think I should've read slower, but here I am, about 10-15 minutes after I closed the book. The book was good, but like all the Dream Hunter books, this one confused me. I can't exactly decide if it takes place exactly after Retribution or it's way ahead in time. It could also be the fact that some of the details in the entire series are a bit lost to my memory (hence the Dark Hunter series reread I'm doing currently).

I loved this book for a number of reasons. First of all, Ms. Kenyon manages to create the best tormented heroes out there. All of her Dark/Were/Dream Hunters are scarred, all of them have painful pasts, but very few of them are truly tormented. So when I read Seth's story, I couldn't help but think about Acheron and Zarek. Seth's story is just as painful and heartbreaking as their stories. Even having all the goodness and kindness tortured out of him, Seth could still feel enough compassion for those his master told him to torture and beat. He also saved Lydia from having a very painful end at the hands of Noir and even gives her the one thing she craved most: her voice. Granted, he might have an ulterior, egoistical motive for protecting her, but he did it, even after all he's been through. I do believe he had a code of honor even before he met Lydia, otherwise he would've told Noir she was inside his domain.

Lydia was different than I expected. I think she's very insecure, so she lashes out very often. I would've liked to know her a little more. I think she kind of grows up with the story. She has a big sense of loyalty and she's willing to die for those she loves, but she also is very afraid of losing those she cares about so she keeps herself a little distant.

We meet Jaden again and I really want to know more about him. I feel like Jaden's a bigger mystery than Ash was and I hope we'll be getting his book sooner. We're also see Solin. I love that guy. I hope he gets his HEA someday.

The book was good, but it felt rushed at the end. Also the timeline confused me. Is this book right after Sundown's story or is this more in the future? Then again, I am rereading the entire series, so maybe after I've read them all I'll be able to have a better timeline and I'll understand more.

Next book in the Dark Hunter series is Time Untime and we have to wait until August, 2012 to read it *pout* But I'll have time to read the books slowly and thoroughly, so I don't really mind waiting this time.

All in all, I do think this is a great book and it's fresh and another of the reasons I love Kenyon's books. It's different, but I wasn't disappointed.

The Guardian is another book in the increasingly large Dark-Hunter universe by Sherrilyn Kenyon. This one follows the character Seth, a demigod sold into slavery by a family of were jackals to the evil gods Noir and Azura in Azmodea. He is torturing Solin, the demigod dream hunter from previous books, to find the Key of Olympus. Meanwhile, Lydia, a mute were hunter jackal is trying to rescue Solin. Seth takes Lydia captive and tells Solin to bring him the key or she dies. Hiding Lydia from Noir, Seth keeps her prisoner but doesn’t harm her. He actually returns her voice to her since he cannot speak sign language. She starts showing him how to use the computer he manifested for himself. She learns that he doesn’t read any modern languages but is incredibly literate in a few languages that predate her, bringing up the question of just how old the Guardian of Azmodea is. What Seth fails to realize is that the Key to Olympus is already in his grasp. Lydia is not only a were hunter, but a dream hunter as well, tying two genetic lines that should have never been tied. As they spend more time together waiting for Solin to get back, Lydia and Seth begin to feel more and more drawn to one another. But Seth thinks she and Solin are romantically tied, and Lydia hates him for torturing Solin. But she begins to see that Solin isn’t the only one that is tortured. Every day Noir and Azura hurt Seth, her heart begins to break for him. Can they ever get free? Can they find a way to be together despite everything? If Seth learns the truth of who Lydia is, will he kill her for being a jackal?

4.5 stars. Loved Seth.So sad when he was tortured I am so glad that Lydia was a strong female that she stood by her promise and rescued him. I really like Jaden. I hope he gets his own book as well. A good read from SK like always.

I had a little bit of trouble getting into the story of this book, and I have always liked the dream-hunter books a little less than the dark-hunters. Seth and Lydia's story was good, but it was very dark! And Noir was more scary than ever in this one as well.
