I kept changing my mind about this book. The writing is definitely beautiful, but a large portion of the book is just spent finding ways that little thing were symbolic of the wrongs of the changing world, but the end kind of put it all together. There were definitely some points where she said something that I had been feeling but unable to put into words in the most eloquent way humanly possible. If you are depressed and want your depression put into words, highly recommend this book. If you are cynical, I highly recommend this book. If you love the sixties and want to read an author that defined the times, you will probably be disappointed by this book.

This is my first time reading Joan Didion, and now I think I could read her writing on literally anything and be entranced. Can't wait to read The Year of Magical Thinking soon.
