Don’t read when eating
dark emotional reflective fast-paced

The ending did get me, Tadashi just sitting with Kaori accepting her death and his new reality, allowing the shift in his reality as she is no longer suffering and his world is just that of dark metamorphosis.

Didn’t think much of it at first until it reached Human Centipede levels of “☠️☠️☠️

Fish with legs? Reading the synopsis you'd probably wonder how far could Ito push it with this kind of concept. But lemme tell you that he freaking ran with it. It does feel tame by his standards at times but once things start kicking into gears, it gets downright gnarly.

The smell of death hangs over the island. A strange metal legged fish coming ashore is only just the beginning of a horrific tale that's about to unfold. Another masterpiece by Junji Ito.

Gyo is haunting and absolutely disgusting. It constantly keeps you on edge as you know things can only get worse. You can almost smell the decaying fish and human bodies right off the pages. Junji Ito is a master at crafting horror stories that creep you out at the turn every page.

My only complaint would be the somewhat open ending. It comes out of seemingly nowhere and raises some questions that will always remain unanswered. What will the last survivors do now? What will Tadashi do?

This book also has two bonus stories. The Sad Tale of the Principal Post and The Enigma of Amigara Fault. The latter being one of my absolute favorite Junji Ito stories. This book will not be my last Junji Ito book and i look forward to reading more. This was great.
